Waste Culture, War Economy

It is pretty obvious that the debasement of the human mind caused by a constant flow of fraudulent advertising is no trivial thing. There is more than one way to conquer a country. – Raymond Chandler
I think my first wake up call came when I realized the emptiness inherent in the western way of life: in what I was taught in school were the only meaningful pursuits in life. Amusement, i.e. self-gratification, and the riches with which to buy the former. Drugs were a necessity of this lifestyle. Drugs and alcohol and other means of blinding one to the realities hidden behind the glittering surface, some of which I touch upon in my previous post.

Another thing was waking up to the fact that this regimented machine of work, pay, envy, debt, drugs, sex, work pay, envy and yet more debt drives this machine while the slaves running it service the machinists and are kept docile through distractions: the bread and circus of gratuitious sex and voyuerism that is entertainment. We're fools to buy into this. Fools to willingly believe in the manufactured dream-world that leaves us ignorant of the true state of things.

We bloggers like to boast of our ability to see through the lies of mainstream media, yet some of us fall for its more lurid aspects hoping to escape without ever questioning whether that flight into self-gratification and objectification is not a worse form of slavery. And if we can't see this any talk of "winning back our minds" is plain guff, if our minds turn to mush at the beck and call of what's between our legs. The painted image of yet another lie. Then we've lost. Then we've opted once more for the blue pill. Once more for the return to the safe cryonic womb that keeps us barely alive in order to feed off our energy.

Reading Camus at the age of seventeen was yet another wake up call. Passages such as: "One can never cease to wonder at the fact that all men live as if they knew nothing." This sparked the flame in me that wanted to know, wanted to pull away that veil between me and a simple cup of coffee, a buttercup pushing through concrete, the simple act of holding a loved one's hand in the rain, the fresh smell of bread outside the bakery at four in the morning. I sold my TV then. Haven't had one since.

How to describe that awakening? Camus did it best when he wrote:

"At times the set pieces collapse. Wake up, grab the streetcar, four hours at the office or factory, eat, streetcar, fours hours of work, eat, sleep, and monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday to the same rhythm – this routine is for the most part easy to follow. But one fine day the question occurs: why? - and thus the process is begun, in immense disgust coupled with amazement. 'Begun' is a crucial word here. Disgust is the last stage of a mechanical life, but it heralds a new forward movement in the mind. It awakens thoughts and calls forth what follows. And what follows is either an unconscious return to the chain or the irrevocable awakening."*

Around the same time I began smoking Camels, imitating Philip Marlowe. I intuitively identified with him as a role model. It was not that I wanted to be a detective, more the fact that there were so few men around you kind of had to go with the best you could find. And in Marlowe Chandler had set out to portray a man fit for these cheap times. Describing this man in The Simple Art of Murder he wrote:

"Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. The detective must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor. He talks as the man of his age talks, that is, with rude wit, a lively sense of the grotesque, a disgust for sham, and a contempt for pettiness."

Of this man's opposite he wrote:

Some are able and humane men and some are low-grade individuals with the morals of a goat, the artistic integrity of a slot machine, and the manners of a floorwalker with delusions of grandeur.

And of the sham, of this debased effegy we call "snivelization," where we're taught to believe in manufactured dreams at the cost of humanity, Chandler had this to say.

"This country through its enormous talent for manufacture has worked itself into an economy of overproduction, which is probably a permanent economy. Half the world is starving, or at any rate badly underfed, yet we have to have a new refrigerator and a new automobile every year or so. If we don’t, we feel inferior because we are made to feel inferior. The kind of economy we have can only continue to exist if there is an enormous artificial wastage of manufactured product. We get that kind of waste in a war. In time of peace you have to create it artificially by advertising (Raymond Chandler Speaking: Penguin, 1973)."

To fool onself into believing that the modus of the machine, the language of advertisement, the cheapness of the sell and what's being sold, the extent to which these things permeate our lives, does not affect us, does not put us to sleep, does not cheapen us as long as we remain unaware of it is probably the greatest lie of all.

Peace.

hey, great post jc! I especially like "snivelization." Good one!

I differ with Chandler on one thing. Americans although they feed the machine and thus are partly to blame, are being used like everyone else in the world.

The principal reason for the death, destruction and famine around the globe are the monopolists (moneylenders and patent holders) who, first through deception and now by brute force, control the spigots of the fountains of currency, industry, and technology.

Humanity has the knowledge, resources, and technology for everyone on earth to have a brand new whatever, if that was a good thing. But, a handful of power-hungry animals are unjustifiably arrogating it to themselves.

But yes, we are to blame for not seeking to understand how the system
works and how our energies and lives are harnessed and controlled to bring about such destruction - eventually upon ourselves.

don't think he's blaming americans, here. just stating the obvious.

it's just that the american industrial machine is the biggest one, or was.

now they've moved that overseas, all that remains is the manufacture of pipedreams.

also, no change is gonna come as long as your buy into the scam, while complaining about being scammed.

what this country, this world needs, is men of honor. and you don't ask for that. you try to become one.

the more of those we have the greater chance we have for change.

otherwise forget it. laws don't matter without moral women and men.

"laws don't matter without moral women and men."

That's not entirely true. Laws and morals both guide and regulate behavior. Laws either compliment or frustrate efforts to raise moral men and women.

Morals are one step removed from laws. Indeed, earlier laws reflected morals. But, morals were thrown by the wayside because certain people benefitted by discarding them, as they were increasingly more restrictive than laws. It's only when evil is legalized that it takes a hold of entire civilizations.

That's why I never believed genuine the quote "Let me issue and control a nation's money and I care not who writes the laws." - Mayer Amschel Rothschild, 1790

It's plain that without "law" fiat money would not exist. And in turn, without the Federal Reserve Act, the Federal Reserve System and the massive power that they wield would not be possible.

So, good laws are necessary, for morality is very difficult to sustain amidst legalized and institutionalized corruption.

Laws are simply not sufficient to sustain a civilization, evidenced by the fact that immoral laws never last for very long.

"Morality"--Or Is It Just Heresy?
(Mighty Thor, 26 Feb 06)

"JC": "Morality" is something after the fact (of survival in determinist Darwinian existence). Hence we see in CYCLES, as Oswald Spengler taught ("Decline of the West"). "Morality" is mere science of means--NOT ENDS. Darwinian biology precedes such "moral" luxury, always most appreciated in smug retrospect, unfortunately.

For morality must follow reality, hence objectivity. "Good-evil" is mere child's mythology on the way to the real adult science and the HONEST accepting of reality which is truth.

First we see HONESTY; is that a virtue?--yes, but not just for "morality"--especially for simple survival in Darwinian objective scientific universe.

So we see things thus according to Hegelian "DIALECTIC"--this within cycles. Presently Jew subjectivist is ascendant (culturally, politically, economically, legally, etc.), pushing holohoax false religion in suppression of Christianity (as displaced Ten Commandment monument in Alabama state Supreme courthouse). Only honesty admits this truth and free expression against the establishment lies, intimidation--and such as false religion of holohoax. False religion and heresy cover for FRAUD.

Talmudic holohoax false religion then covers for a simple economic fraud like the Federal Reserve Bank counterfeiting conspiracy, most powerful earthly power, built upon lies and a decadent public pretending. See Griffin's "Creature From Jekyll Island," also Rothbard's "Mystery of Banking."

Thus for a resurgence for historical cycle we need more and real Christian objectivity as Gosp. JOHN 8:44, naturally founded necessarily upon honesty--which Jews and "Sadduceans" abhor, as well as a new Constantinian Christian cultural revolution.

Such revolution would also be seen as most rationalistic--did u know, for another example, the 16th (income tax) amendment was actually never ratified, just declared to be so by a corrupt official and secretary of state?

There are positive ways to promote this necessary Christian revolution-resurgence. Hence we understand an ethic of such honesty, Christianity one artistic expression, most sympathetic w. Western Culture, subsuming and improving for Homer's Illiad and Oddysey, for example. Thus New Testament (NT), appreciated as sublime literature, gives most definitive and informative CONSPIRACY THEORY-ANALYTIC-TEMPLATE.

Of course there is a "rub," a "nuance," a little "trick" to things otherwise so well cut-out. For Jews require co-conspirators and traitors among the gentiles, these then constituting a modern-day "Sadducean" faction-oligarchy-"establishment." Such "Sadduceans" of modern-day would correspond perfectly w. CFR (Council on Foreign Relations), also such as heretical icons like Falwell, Robertson, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, et al. See JBS.org (for CFR) and Whtt.org (for JCs).

We individuals acting then in the cultural context of CONSPIRACY--isn't it exciting?--such is the moral dilemma/problematic. Christianity then is the necessary trend (for resurgence), artistically (aesthetically), overcoming the reigning Talmudic subjectivism which won such signal victory over West and Christianity in WWII.

For the strength of the Judeo-"Sadducean" conspirators are their clients, cohorts, and co-conspirators among the elders and such imperialist partisans and enforcers as "Judeo-Christians" (JCs) as such JCs are conflicted upon an obvious oxymoron.

As the elders and JCs are inexorably affected by HONESTY, the remnant of these after the great body of worst losers, weaklings, and suckers have been killed off in the Orwellian "perpetual warfare...", the Spenglerian resurgence may come about as in 4th cent. Roman Empire under Saint Constantine the Great.

CONCLUSION: I urge the people to see a vision--cultural--including but also looking beyond mere "morality"--a resurgence of the heretofore Spenglerian "Decline of the West." "Morality" is indeed much too pretentious: why not let's simply be HONEST?--is that a good enough start?--(Hence determinism, cycles, and conspiracy-theory, and no "good-evil," or other heresies, for notable examples.) Honest elections and death to the Fed. Thor

You may be surprised to know that I mostly agree with this post. I agree that the American culture is being wasted away on greed and the influence of money.

I think, however, that it is not PORN that has led to such a bastardization of American culture, but rather RELIGION and IGNORANCE meshed with CORPORATE GREED.

You want to see a country totally fucked up over sex? Look at Saudi Arabia. The country is one of sexually immature men who have NO access to women, and end up having sex with each other - all because they don't even know what sexuality means.

http://www.camprehoboth.com/issue11_27_02/hearme.htm

http://www.bhj.org/books/arabs/chap13.htm

Then there are the problems in America, with the lies spread in abstinence only education. http://www.now.org/issues/health/121704abstinence.html

This has been linked with an increase of STDs amongst teens.

http://www.aclu.org/reproductiverights/sexed/12604res20050504.html

What does any of this mean? That mostly religion-fueled ignorance about what sex is and what the ramifications are has led to the spread of disease and misery.

MEANWHILE, the advertising industry and corporate America, always keen to make a buck, promotes products with ads that are indistinguishable from most "porn" (see a Kate Moss Calvin Klein ad http://oase.uci.kun.nl/~marnix/calvin.jpg). They do so in a way that absolutely does not promote any understanding of what sex is or to educate citizens on their sexuality. Instead, the message is "buy jeans, it will get you sex." (Calvin Klein is just the most blatant example of this - not the only one!)

The bottom line is the bottom dollar. Religions seek contributions. Politicians seek office claiming they will "clean up the smut," and advertisers seek dollars.

A huge number of porn films, on the other hand, in fact are comedic and make light of what in fact is comedic. All this hullaballoo over naked bodies.

Rationality is completely lost. God forbid Americans should approach the situation in any sort of ADULT manner. God forbid sex ed classes actually teach men and women about...SEX.

Yes, they are negative results of the porn industry. But I honestly believe most of the negative results are simply the natural combination with the corrosive influences of religion, politics, and advertising. No wonder Americans (and the world) are completely hung up over sex, and the culture is completely bastardized!

Excellent post!

I wonder what makes an individual suddenly experience the "existential" question. It seems to engage the potion of the brain that suddenly kicks into a burst of critical and analytical thinking. Suddenly so many things once held as being true now becomes questionable.

I also wonder if this is where good folk's become stuck with dualistic thinking. Some say that reasoning is either held to the idea the thinking is either "rational" or "irrational", in nature, without considering the existential realization as being a part of a "non-rational" process. Something that is deep in the recess of the human psyche of our race or even what we call the soul?

I, who have not live a sheltered life, was forced to suddenly see things as they are, rather then what I wanted them to be. It seems to me that morality, such as a women's sacrifice of forgetting about her self interest for the needs of her new born child, to me, is as though something divine is being divulged unconsciously rather than the obvious being commuicated.

Wonderfull essay jc.

q,

there's the question of beginnings.

take ethics: a. A set of principles of right conduct. b. A theory or a system of moral values, from the greek ethos (character)

or moral: (adj) 1. Of or concerned with the judgment of the goodness or badness of human action and character: moral scrutiny; a moral quandary. 2. Teaching or exhibiting goodness or correctness of character and behavior: a moral lesson. 3. Conforming to standards of what is right or just in behavior; virtuous: a moral life. 4. Arising from conscience or the sense of right and wrong: a moral obligation. (n) 1. The lesson or principle contained in or taught by a fable, a story, or an event. 2. A concisely expressed precept or general truth; a maxim. 3. morals Rules or habits of conduct… with reference to standards of right and wrong, from Latin moralis, from mos, from mor-, custom,

or numismatic: from Greek, custom, current coin, from nomizein, to have in use, from nomos, custom;

mores, ethics, custom, currency

or take currency: from Middle English curraunt, from Old French corant, present participle of courre, to run, from Latin currere, i.e. things that run: cattle, sheep, goats

these words whose meanings were established by usage long before the libraries, the cities, by men,
cowboys in the area now being fought over by just about everyone on earth.

the prophet Abraham was a cowboy, read the OT.

they are all in one sense or another the roots of the word law: 1. A rule of conduct or procedure established by custom, agreement, or authority.

from which we derived:

2.
a. The body of rules and principles governing the affairs of a community and enforced by a political authority; a legal system: international law.
b. The condition of social order and justice created by adherence to such a system: a breakdown of law and civilized behavior.
3. A set of rules or principles dealing with a specific area of a legal system: tax law; criminal law.
4. A piece of enacted legislation.
5.
a. The system of judicial administration giving effect to the laws of a community: All citizens are equal before the law.
b. Legal action or proceedings; litigation: submit a dispute to law.
c. An impromptu or extralegal system of justice substituted for established judicial procedure: frontier law.

meaning that men make laws. meaning that there was once a time when we naturally look to the best among us to establish practice, judge in disputes and so on. much of our customs come from tales of how the best of our men acted. in human society we searched and honered those with the best conduct, those who were just, fair, honorable and so on.

again: 1. A rule of conduct or procedure established by custom, agreement, or authority

consider then the constitution, the bill of rights, where did these spring from? and who do they matter to, really? those who have no sense of shame, those who consider morals and ethics a weakness, something to be disposed of? i think not.

i may have been a bit harsh when i wrote that "without morals laws don't matter," but what i meant by that is fairly obvious, i think.

something else, when i use the word men i am not referring to the "gender marker" as everyone know a great many "men" genderwise are nothing but infantile, self-absorbed delinquents with "the morals of a goat."

take dharma: a. The principle or law that orders the universe. b. Individual conduct in conformity with this principle. c. The essential function or nature of a thing

or sunna: Arabic sunna, customary practice, tradition, from sanna, to sharpen, shape, enact

or tao: 1. In Taoism, the basic, eternal principle of the universe that transcends reality and is the source of being, non-being, and change.
2. In Confucianism, the right manner of human activity and virtuous conduct seen as stemming from universal criteria and ideals governing right, wrong, and other categories of existence, from Mandarin dao: way

or shari'a: Arabic water hole, drinking place, the shortest way to water, law

"the city teaches polity, the desert wisdom"

these are all from our past, all well established during our ancestors winter and summer progress (that's where that word came from) from the high summer camps to the winter valleys. in that cyclic realm where balance and equity was a rule of survival. where excess was frowned upon simply because it threatened the community: society.

from good conduct, the conduct of good men, law.

the sense in which i use the word here is also an established practice: i would say Mary the mother of Jesus peace be upon them was a man, and according to the gospel of Thomas, Jesus considered the MAgdalene a man, in this sense. she upheld the law.

we're either shepherds or wolves. it's a choice. the way the world works today, wolves are having their day and their cubs are baying in concert with them. egging them on to tear down all that is right and just. which is natural the cubs will one day assert themselves and take over from their pack-leaders, and that'll be a bloodfest of a purge.

that these wolves chose to act like shepherds in order to fool us is also natural. but make no mistake… about them.

JC,

My question, however, is whether a religious state would be better. I think (sorry, I am sure) it would be far worse.

By religious state, I refer to any religion - Christianity, Islam, Judaism.

The ideal state is one which allows people to live and let live, and does not dumb people down to oblivion (which is often done in the name of religion). Then, if graphic images are shown - people can handle them in a matter manner.

Live and let live...such a foreign concept, I know!
